Taste of Chicago

Taste of Chicago is one of the largest food festivals in the world. Each year, millions of people from within the city, other states, and different parts of the world gather in Chicago for 10 days of gastronomic adventure. During this event, different varieties of food prepared by Chicago’s top restaurants are available for tasting.

The event will start on Friday, June 25, 2010 and will last until July 4, 2010. This will take place in its usual location, Grant Park. Besides awesome food and drinks, the event also features free entertainment at the Petrillo Music Shell. Artists such as Salt-n-Pepa, Bell Biv Devoe, Rob Thomas, and Steve Miller band will be performing. Other entertainment locations include The Illinois Lottery Taste stage and Best Buy stage where other artists will hold shows.

The Dominick’s Cooking Corner is also a must see for their star-studded roster of Celebrity chefs. Chefs Mario Batali and Giada De Laurentiis of Food Network are among the celebrity chefs who will grace the event.

Since the food and beverages are sold by tickets, better get yours ahead of time. As for me, I’m all set and ready to go; I even have the tickets already. See you at the Taste of Chicago 2010.

For more information about this event, visit their official website at tasteofchicago.us

Panlasang Pinoy Noche Buena 2010

Noche Buena

Noche Buena or “Good Night” refers to the night of Christmas Eve. This is a very special night for Filipinos because this is the time where family and very close friends come by and enjoy a very special Christmas dinner. This event usually takes place after hearing the late night Christmas eve mass that we refer to as Misa de Gallo.

Panlasang Pinoy Noche Buena 2010

It is the time where all the special dishes are prepared and shared with everyone. During my childhood years, this is the time where I meet all my relatives and have a very wonderful time with my cousins and my only sister. For some of us, time changes and we  need to move on to pursue our dreams chase what lies ahead of us. I don’t mean to be sentimental ; I am just reminiscing and thinking of those good times when we (me , my wife, and kids) are with the special people that we truly cherish (in the Philippines). I’ll sure plan to spend Christmas there when we are completely settled here in Chicago.

This is our second Christmas dinner here in the USA. For this year, My wife and I decided to have a simple Noche Buena. Since I have  just three hours to prepare the food (because of work and commitments), we made sure to select the ones that are easy to prepare (and easy to digest ). For the appetizer, we prepared Marinated Shrimp with lemon dill sauce and Deviled Eggs with salmon. We had Fettuccine Alfredo, Baked King Crab Legs, and Spiral Ham in Lingonberry sauce for the main course. Fruit salad and New York Style Cheesecake were served for dessert.

Even though I am not in the Philippines to spend Christmas, I am still happy because my wife and kids are now with me. That’s what really matters most.

Belated Merry Christmas to everyone and a Happy and Prosperous new year to you and your family. May we shower everyone with love and continue to share our blessings. Thank you for always patronizing Panlasang Pinoy. Rest assure that we will always be here for you to provide vital information for the years to come.

Panlasang Pinoy @ Michigan’s Adventure

Last weekend was full of excitement and thrill. I went with my family to visit an amusement park  in Muskegon, Michigan known as Michigan’s Adventure. It was almost a 5 hour trip from our place but the travel and exhaustion was worth the while.

We met-up with our close friend, Sharon, who lives a few miles away from the theme park. Together with her husband Don-don and baby Andrew, we spent all day touring the park. We were also introduced to some of their Filipino friends who happened to be in the park that day.

The day ended after we ate dinner (Pork and Chicken adobo) in the parking lot …Filipino style :). The food was really great and the company made it better.

Want to see more pictures of our trip? Please continue reading this post.

The ride lasts for over 2 1/2 minutes and is an out and back design featuring loads of airtime. Shivering Timbers is 5383 feet long. The ride is critically acclaimed within the industry; every year following the ride’s debut, the Golden Ticket Awards have named Shivering Timbers one of the ten best wooden coasters in the world, with a five year stretch (2000-2004) at #2, and a #3 ranking in 2005.

Shivering Timbers still remains one of the longest wooden rollercoasters in the world today and also one of the best (as ranked by Amusement Today). Shivering Timbers is known for its airtime & trick-track. Shivering Timbers is the only coaster in the world to feature a trick track where the track is crooked and riders are thrown from the left to the right. Riders must be 48 inches tall to ride Shivering Timbers. (source: wikipedia.org)

Thunderhawk is the seventh coaster at Michigan’s Adventure. The roller coaster, built by Vekoma, was relocated from Geauga Lake in Ohio. Thunderhawk opened for the 2008 season. Thunderhawk is a suspended looping coaster that seats 2 people across as they are suspended beneath the track with their legs dangling. The trains climb to a height of 105 feet before plunging into a 86 foot drop. Along the journey, the trains reach speeds up to 50 miles per hour and flip upside down 5 times. With an approximate 2 minute 30 second ride time along 2000 feet of track, it is the first roller coaster the park has added since 1999. The coaster also features an on-ride video camera with the option of purchasing your own on-ride video. The ride’s color scheme is bright red track with fluorescent yellow supports. (At Geauga Lake, the ride was first dark red with sky blue supports, then bright orange track with the same yellow supports.) (source: wikipedia.org)
