French Fries has been popular since the 50’s when frozen potato strips became available to the public. The popularity even increased when giant fast food restaurants and diners began serving them along with burger and hot dog sandwiches. At present, French Fries is considered almost a staple — next to bread — in the United States. […]
Potato Croquettes are pieces of mashed potato balls that were rolled in bread crumbs and deep-fried until crispy. This is a good side dish or snack and it goes well with basic condiments such as ketchup or mayonnaise.
Potato croquettes are nice addition to the usual side dishes like French fries, onion rings, mashed potato, or potato chips. These can also be a hash brown substitute for breakfast.
I enjoy having these taters as side for burger or hotdog sandwich.

Onion rings are sliced onions that are dipped in a batter, and deep fried until crisp. These are considered as a fast food favorite; it can also be a good replacement for French fries.
The secret for a good onion ring is in the batter. The batter must contain the right amount of flavor to compliment the onion. It should also be crisp enough to be enjoyed. While there are many onion ring batter recipes around, I am still sticking with simplest recipe that I know.
Aside from being simple, I like this recipe because it does not call for any ingredients that are hard to find. The flavor is nice – typical of what I would expect for an onion ring to be – with a terrific texture.
How do you cook cauliflower? If you cook cauliflower by sautéing (ginisa) with other vegetables, or using it as an ingredient in dishes such as chopsuey, pancit bihon, or pancit canton, then you might be surprised to know that there are many other ways to cook this nutritious vegetable.
Roasted Cauliflower is an example. Cauliflower florets are mixed with garlic, olive oil, salt, and ground black pepper, then oven-roasted for several minutes until the texture is about right. It is later topped with parmesan cheese for additional flavor.
This is a simple recipe that you will surely love. I like this cauliflower recipe because the unique taste of the cauliflower is emphasized. Although this is a simple recipe, I think that this is good because cauliflower is highlighted. This is one of the few times where cauliflower becomes as star, and not just filler.
Sautéed Shrimp Paste or Bagoong Guisado are fermented small shrimps (called alamang) that were sautéed with garlic, onion, tomato, and pork. This can be considered either as a dish or as a condiment.
There are many Filipino dishes that depend on shrimp paste for flavor. Kare-kare and Pork Binagoongan (binagoongang baboy) are just a few of them.
As a stand alone dish, Bagoong Guisado can be simply eaten with steamed rice. Do you like Bagoong Fried Rice? You can make one by checking-out the garlic fried rice recipe; try adding 1/4 cup of Bagoong Guisado to the recipe. I will publish a separate recipe post, soon.

Coleslaw is a great side dish for fried chicken and other fried foods; in fact, several burger recipes make use of coleslaw. This coleslaw recipe that we have here is not your regular coleslaw; I tried to incorporate a fruit that is in season: apples.
I got tired of having the same coleslaw over and over again so I looked-up for unique coleslaw recipe ideas. Coleslaw with apples got my attention. I liked the idea of a colorful presentation so I decided to combine both green and red (purple) cabbage; it turned-out the way it should – fantastic!
