7up Chicken Asado

Jump to Recipe Print Recipe

7up Chicken Asado is your same sweet chicken asado dish, only that it is cooked in lemon-lime soda and no sugar was added. This is a twist to our regular recipe. It is interesting because the concept of cooking with soda pop as an ingredient draws curiosity. It will make you think and imagine the outcome. Spoiler alert, it is really good. You should give it a try.

7up chicken asado

I did not went ahead to boil the chicken directly in soda pop when cooking this version of chicken asado. We will still need to marinate the chicken in soy sauce and crushed peppercorn. The cavity should also be stuffed with onion and lemongrass. This preparation is needed to infuse flavor to the chicken.

The cooking process starts by sauteing the aromatics. We are using chopped onions and garlic for this recipe. The chicken is added afterwards, along with the remaining marinade. This is the time when the soda pop (7up) is poured into the pot. I simply boiled the chicken for around 30 to 40 minutes.

The sweet asado sauce, on the other hand, is made using the liquid that was used to boil the chicken. Simply reduce it until thick, add garlic powder and onion powder, and pour over the chicken.
