What is Grapefruit Diet?
Grapefruit Diet or Mayo Diet is a fast weight loss scheme that has been around for a long time. This diet involves eating grapefruit along with foods from specific food groups. Grapefruits are high in fiber and have less carbohydrates compared to other fruits within its classification. It also has a high vitamin C content.
Unlike the Lemonade Diet — which is also known as the Master Cleanse diet, this weight loss plan do not promote starvation.
The strategy of this diet is to combine Grapefruit with protein rich foods to cause a reaction that leads to burning fats and calories for quick weight loss. Although it sounds interesting, some skeptics say that the fast weight loss is not caused by burning fats. According to them, the rapid weight loss is caused by water and other body fluids flushed out during the process.
This diet ensures a weight loss of at least ten pounds during its twelve days duration. Exercise such as jogging or walking is also advised.
Similar to other lose weight fast diets, a person following this scheme can gain all the weight lost in a short period of time if proper nutrition and eating habits is not observed after the process. There is also no scientific proof about grapefruit’s fat burning effects.
Meal plan for Grapefruit Diet
There are many versions of this diet. Most of them require specific foods to be eaten within the different meals of the day. This involves Breakfast, lunch, dinner, and one night snack.
Here are some information to give you an idea on the foods that a person undergoing this diet should consume:
For breakfast, it is recommended to have half a slice of grapefruit or at least six to eight ounces of grapefruit juice. This should be consumed along with two eggs cooked in anyway desired (here are some ways to cook eggs), two slices of bacon, and cup of black coffee (this is optional).
Just like breakfast, the lunch plan includes the same amount of grapefruit or juice along with unlimited salad and meat. Note that you can use any salad dressings and any variety of meat cooked in any way you desire.
The dinner plan is more strict. Green and red veggies are required, but make sure to avoid carbohydrate rich vegetables. Fish and meat can also be eaten without any restriction. This still goes with the same amount of grapefruit or grapefruit juice for breakfast.
The night snack does not involve grapefruit consumption. A glass of skim milk or tomato juice is required.
