Fruit Salad Recipe

Fruit Salad is a general term referring to a fruit dish. This dish is typically composed of an assortment of fruits served as is or combined with different types of sweet liquid and table cream. This can either be served as an appetizer, a side dish, and as a dessert.

In the Philippines, fruit salad is considered to be more of a dessert rather than an appetizer or side dish. The Filipino version of the fruit salad requires the use of condensed milk and table cream which makes the dish rich and sweet.

The typical Filipino fruit salad is composed of canned fruit cocktail combined with condensed milk and table cream. However, there are also some versions wherein buko or young coconut is added (this should not be mistaken as the buko salad wherein young coconut is exclusively used).

This Fruit Salad Recipe makes use of the typical Filipino fruit salad ingredients with the addition of other fruits that are in season. Besides the canned fruit cocktail, nata de coco, fresh strawberries, fresh blueberries, and kiwi were also added.

I’m pretty sure that you have your own fruit salad version. How do you make your fruit salad? What are the fruits that you regularly use?

Your opinion matters; hope to hear from you.

    Hi Panlasang Pinoy,
I just would like to thank you for your awesome recipes.
Also, may I ask why my fruit salad tasted bitter? I used some fresh pineapple, apples, grapes and strawberries.
    Thanks po for a reply.

Whip cream and evaporated milk are 2 different ingredients. You can use evaporated milk, but it won’t give you the thick consistency.

Frances, Cool whip cream will be ok, but it will give you a lighter result. You can use heavy whip cream to get the same consistency as using all-purpose cream.

Try adding diced sour apple, like granny smith. This gives it a nice crunch and added zing to counteract all the sweet.

They are different Susan. You can also use whipping cream but make sure that it is extremely cold before you use it.

Here is another version of my fruit salad. My American friends and families love this recipe. It is actually healthy, fresh and simple. I use fresh fruits like strawberries, cantalope, grapes, pineapple, and blueberries (beautiful color presentation). Then add some Macapuno Strings with few teaspoons of honey (to sweetened a bit) and vanilla to taste. Bingo! Easy and Healthy.

If you want to make it more special, add cream cheese to the condense milk and table cream mixture before pouring it over the fruits. Try this method even if its just fresh strawberries with no other fruit.

I can’t wait to try it 🙂 It’s on my to do list, with the rest of the hundreds I have to do. LOL!

This would be great for summertime when most of the ingredients will be fresh.

One questions Vanjo, nata de coco would be coconut milk right?
