How to Make Alfredo Sauce
Ingredients
- 3 1/2 tablespoons butter unsalted
- 1 cup heavy cream
- ½ cup Parmesan cheese grated
- Salt and pepper for seasoning
Instructions
- Add the butter into a pan and melt it slowly over low heat. Be careful not to burn the butter or let it turn brown. Once melted, stir in the heavy cream and then mix thoroughly. Sprinkle salt and pepper.
- Allow the cream mixture to come to a slow boil, increasing heat if necessary. When it starts boiling, reduce the heat and bring to a simmer. The alfredo sauce should begin to have a thicker consistency in just under 5 minutes.
- Remove the mixture from heat and stir in the cheese until it melts as well. Serve and enjoy.

How to Make Alfredo Sauce Cooking Tips
Cooking temperature is the key to learning how to make alfredo sauce. If you brown the butter, the sauce will not have the white color like it is supposed to. It is a great idea to use unsalted butter to minimize your sodium intake. Unsalted butter can also allow the flavor of your seasoning to be enhanced.
Monitoring heat is also important when adding cheese. When heat is too high, the cheese tends to become clumpy. Pre-grated cheese might be convenient but it might take away the authenticity of the sauce. The fresher your ingredients, the better the flavor of the alfredo sauce will be.
Alfredo sauce is popularly served with pasta, particularly fettuccine. You can toss the alfredo sauce with pasta and add meat pieces, seafood or vegetables. You can also use it to substitute your usual tomato pizza sauce. Alfredo sauce tastes great with vegetables like baked potatoes, broccoli, cauliflower and sweet peas. Although the sauce is very flavorful, you can still enhance the taste with fresh herbs like basil and parsley.
Knowing how to make alfredo sauce means you will always have a delicious sauce to mix with many of your dishes. It goes well with light and heavy meals. To ensure you get a white, creamy, traditional alfredo sauce with authentic flavor, stick to low temperatures and avoid high heat.
