How to Make French Toast Sweet

To make sweet French toast, you can follow the general recipe with a few exceptions. Add two tablespoons of milk for every 2 eggs you use. You can also throw in a pinch of cinnamon and ½ teaspoon of vanilla extract if you prefer. Whisk thoroughly and soak the bread as instructed above. Fry on medium heat on both sides of bread slices, and serve with applesauce, syrup, whipped cream, jam, sugar and any sweet toppings of your choice.

How to Make French Toast Salty

For a salty version, replace milk, cinnamon and vanilla extract with salt, spices and herbs of your choice. From parsley to garlic powder, there are many salty seasoning options to choose from. Be careful not to over-season your eggs. Dip bread into seasoned eggs, fry as instructed and serve with sausages, bacon, beans and your favorite sauces.

Is French Toast Healthy?

French toast is not the most nutritious food you can find. However, by choosing low-fat milk, butter and cooking oil, you can reduce the number of calories and fat significantly. You can also substitute sugar-loaded toppings like sugar and syrup with fresh baked beans, lean bacon and hummus for nutrition.

Once you know the basics of how to make French toast, feel free to add seasoning and toppings to boost flavor and nutrition. Always opt for low-fat butter, olive oil or cooking spray to fry. This can help you cut down a lot of calories and keep your fitness on track.
