Exceptionally delicious and juicy, there is nothing quite like a warm, fresh plate of Crispy Mini Lechon Belly Roll. This may be a dish you’re used to ordering from outside for special occasions. But wouldn’t it be great to know how to make it from scratch? After all, we never run short of Filipino celebrations where a gorgeous belly roll wouldn’t fit perfectly on the dining table.

Crispy Mini Lechon Belly Roll

Another perk to this dish is that it actually works great outside of big gatherings as well. Some days, we can’t help but crave lechon. But it’s not as if we can finish the entire roasted dish in one go. Try out the smaller version of it with this recipe! Instead of sharing it with a big group, you can also serve it to the family, or have it on your own, and save some more for later.

Something that may shock you about this famous dish is that it won’t use up a great variety of ingredients. A couple of the seasonings and spices we’ll be using are components already commonly found in someone’s usual kitchen. We can go a long way with onions, salt and ground black pepper! Now how about we give this a go?

How to cook Crispy Mini Lechon Belly Roll:

Preparing the pork belly roll for steaming and broiling:

Begin by taking your pork belly, which should be about 4 lbs. Then slice this in half. Now we will be using 1 ½ tablespoons of ground black pepper, as well as 3 tablespoons of salt. Lay the sliced pork belly flat on a clean surface, and start rubbing the ground black pepper on the meat, and make sure you distribute it evenly. Do this for both slices.

Now we will take our 1 head of garlic that we’ve minced, and start spreading this over each piece of belly. And of course, to make a most fragrant and flavorful dish, we will also use 1 piece of onion we’ve sliced, 1 bunch of lemongrass, and 1 bunch of green onion. Arrange this over your sliced pork belly so that it fits together when we start to roll it. Then accordingly, our next step would be rolling the belly carefully so that none of the ingredients inside fall out. Make sure not to stuff too much into the roll.

As you are rolling the pork belly, make sure that both ends are actually touching so that it won’t open up. Now to make sure that everything is secure, we will use kitchen twine to tie up the pork belly rolls. After that, we can head on over to the steamer!

Proceeding to steaming and broiling our pork belly roll:

Our pork belly rolls are nearly ready! Now we can just place the two pork belly rolls in the steamer. Arrange them beside each other as they are steaming. Then we will steam them for 45 minutes. If this starts to get dry, you can go ahead and add some water. I did so after about 30 minutes of steaming.

Afterwards, we can take them off the steamer, and wait for them to cool. This would take approximately 15 minutes. Now we can prepare to broil the pork belly rolls! Grab your 3 tablespoons of cooking oil, and rub this all over both rolls.

Now we can place this inside the turbo broiler. Like with steaming, we’ll let this broil for 45 minutes. After that, you’re all ready with the most rich and delicious Crispy Mini Lechon Belly Roll! Just slice this up, and serve it while it’s perfectly warm.

Has this gotten you craving for more delightful dishes that are perfect for celebrations? I’ve got the answer for you— a couple of other recipes you should definitely make for yourself! These rolled dishes are perfect for such occasions, and are super convenient to munch on.
