Every now and again you’ll see the rise of a brand new food trend all over your social media feed. From the pandemic alone we’ve seen all sorts of dishes, from the umami sushi bake to the irresistibly sweet dalgona latte. Being stuck at home has made chefs out of so many of us, with our attempts at sourdough bread and avocado toast all over the internet. And even now when we’re slowly easing back into the new normal, we’ve grown to love the things we can make in our kitchen. One of the newest and latest things to pop off on the internet? Deliciously crisp and insanely good crispy katsu sando sandwiches!

Japanese katsu sando recipe

If you like Japanese food, then you’re surely no stranger to the gloriously golden yumminess of katsu. Katsu can either be ton– (pork) or tori– (chicken), depending on your preference. While the cuisine has an array of dishes like succulent sashimi and crunchy, deep fried tempura, tonkatsu is always an appealing option when one is craving Japanese. Delicious pork cutlets coated with panko bread crumbs are fried in oil until crispy and beautiful in color. The result is a dish crackling on the outside that houses meat so tender and juicy it could melt in your mouth. At restaurants, we often see katsu as part of a large set meal in itself. Usually paired with cabbage, rice, and miso soup, you have yourself a winning combination. In other restaurants, it proves to be the perfect contrast to a savory and delectable curry sauce.

But for those who want something easier to take on the go, katsu sando is the dish for you! This viral viand has the tasty cut of meat we love to bite into in between slices of tasty bread. Today, we’ll be using CDO Crispy Burger Patties for our delicious crispy katsu sando to give your dish that surefire, 100% guaranteed delicious texture we all love. With a combination of other ingredients like cabbage, mayonnaise, and mouthwatering katsu sauce, each bite will taste like heaven in your mouth.

What does a crispy katsu sando taste like?

Imagine biting into a delicious, crunchy, and well-seasoned breaded burger patty. Now combine that with the mild but sweet taste of cabbage, the rich, slightly tart, umami katsu sauce, and the contrast between butter and mayonnaise on a perfect slice of tasty bread. Put those flavors all together and you have the absolutely delightful katsu sando! With how easy it is to make this dish, you’ll be feasting upon bite after bite of this tasty sandwich in no time. Try this katsu sando and see what the fuss is all about today!

Just like any other sandwich, you can pair your katsu sando with any side dish of your choice! Whether it’s some french fries, onion rings, or even a light salad, your options for a partner are endless.

Another alternative route you could go is full Japanese! With the different dishes that comprise the cuisine, you could prepare a full Japanese feast for your family. For starters, easy to make sushi rolls like this Tuna Roll or the classic California Maki are always guaranteed crowd pleasers. Quick to pop into your mouth, the fresh flavors of fish and other ingredients make every bite a pleasant one!

Afterwards, you could make some delicious and saucy teriyaki! Whether it’s chicken or salmon, the combination of sweet and salty in teriyaki is one hard to pass up. Not to mention it’s so easy to make your own teriyaki sauce from the comfort of your own home! You can also try to make pork dumplings, which are an undeniable Asian treat! Highly addictive, you won’t notice how many you’ve popped into your mouth until your dimsum tray is empty. These are just some of the dishes that would go perfectly with our crispy katsu sando.

Let’s get to making this easy, delicious sandwich!

Heat 2 tablespoons of cooking oil in a pan before frying both sides of your CDO Crispy Burger Patties on medium heat. Once you’ve achieved the crispiness you’re after, set them aside. With that aside, grab your 2 slices of tasty bread. Spread butter on one side of the first slice, and mayonnaise on the other slice. Then, take the bread with butter and lay it down on a flat surface, butter side up. Top it with your shredded cabbage, as well as your quarter cup of katsu sauce. The next step would be to add 2 CDO Crispy Burgers over it, topping it with even more cabbage and tonkatsu sauce. Lastly, cap it all off with your mayonnaise slice of bread.

Make two more sandwiches just like this, and your crispy katsu sando are ready! Arrange them on a serving plate with a side of your choice, and enjoy this hearty, delicious meal. Let us know what you think!
